Knitting – Souvenir

Knitting – Souvenir release date June, 27 – 2026

Montreal-based outfit Knitting clearly love the sound of their guitars. This was already fully evident on their 2024 debut, Some Kind of Heaven, but simply labeling them as just another “slacker rock” band would be a massive misnomer—especially after listening to their latest offering, Souvenir.

On Souvenir, the band delivers a highly detailed and nuanced guitar-driven landscape. Their signature sound is a masterclass in dynamic tension: meticulously built up, intricately stripped down, and then built back up again. This sonic precision is the brilliant product of frontperson Mischa Dempsey’s close collaboration with guitarist and engineer Sarah Harris (Ultra Farl), bassist Piper Curtis (Sunforger), and drummer Andy Mulcair (Andy and the Dannys, Lovelet). While the lineup spent a few years carefully developing their chemistry, the actual recording sessions for Souvenir were relatively brief. It is clear that the band entered the studio with a fully formed, mature musical concept, and that meticulous preparation has worked absolute wonders for the final product.

Admittedly, Souvenir is undeniably a guitar-dominated record, but it possesses a shape-shifting quality that is surprisingly hard to pin down. No matter how deeply it drinks from the well of 1990s inspiration, it avoids lazy pastiche. Instead, it feels as though Dempsey and the band have brilliantly synthesized the entirety of that decade’s rock landscape—expertly bridging the gap between the raw, heavy grit of early grunge and the more polished, melodic alternative offerings that defined the late 90s.

With Souvenir, Knitting proves they are far more than mere revivalists; they are sharp architects of a rich, layered rock sound that demands your full attention.
